Project Features: Samut  Prakarn is the most heavily industrialized and polluted province in Thailand. It is located in the south-eastern area of the Bangkok Metropolitan Region, at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River. In 1993, the Cabinet declared the province as a “pollution control zone”,  to enable PCD to arrange for urgent and special assistance to be focused in this area. In 1993, ADB approved a technical assistance (TA) grant to help the Government address the wastewater problems of the province.

The main objectives of the Project are to improve environmental quality, and public health and welfare in Samut Prakarn province by providing reliable and cost-effective wastewater collection and treatment facilities for the most developed urban and industrial districts in the province.

The Engineer’s scope of works include tender evaluation, construction supervision and project management. The main project features are as follows :

Project area coverage : 130 sq.km.

Wastewater Collection System

  • Size of pipe (jacking/tunnelling) : ∅300 mm – ∅ 3,000 mm
  • Total length of pipe : 132.0 km
  • Number of pump stations : 8 numbers

Max. pump station capacity : 12.19 cu.m/sec

  • Number of Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO): 391 numbers
  • Number of Industrial Direct Connection (IDC): 108 numbers
  • Number of Depots : 2 numbers

Wastewater Treatment System

  • Capacity: 525,000 m3/day (Average Dry Weather Flow)
  • Treatment process: Extended Aeration Activated Sludge (EAAS)

Effluent Disposal

  • Capacity: 945,000 m3/day
  • Marine outfall: ∅ 2,600 mm tunnel, 2,610 m long ∅ 2,600

mm diffuser header pipe, 608 m long
