Detailed Narrative Descriptive of Project :

The Kong-Chi-Mun Feasibility Study Project covers the area of 13 northeastern provinces, including Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Mahasarakham, Roiet, Yasothon, Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Buriram and Nakhon Ratchasima. Water from the Kong River will be pumped and distributed to the target area of 2 million rai. The major target is to irrigate the new area along the Chi and Mun Basin. Some part is presently irrigated, However, water from this project will help increase the reliability of the water supply in this area. Outlines of the Kong-Chi-Mun Feasibility Study are:

1. To gather hydrology and meteorology data in the project area and the Kong River. To study flow in the Kong River and allowable discharge from the Kong River. To study water use in the project area and work out the water system simulation study.

2. To study the site of the head regulator and conveyance canal or tunnel from the Kong River to the Lampao or Nampong Reservoir.

3. To determine appropriate alignments for distribution of water to the Chi and Mun Basin.

4. To study the appropriate irrigation area in the Chi and Mun Basin to cover the target area of 2 million rai.

5. To study the Agro-Industries development in the project area, i.e. demand for development; sources of raw materials; types of agro-industries; infra-structures; site and market.

6. To study the environmental impacts; physical and biological impacts; impacts from man’s utilization of the project; impacts on quality of life.

Detailed Description of Actual Services provided :

Consulting services include collection, review and evaluation of existing data regarding meteorology, hydrology, stream and reservoir water quality, salinity, pollution; remote sensing data from Landsat and ground truth data, land use, flood control, drainage, reservoir sedimentation; agricultural rum-off and deforestation industrial wastewater, fish and food processing, reservoir ecology; irrigation; storage reservoirs for water supply and irrigation, diversion weirs, pumped diversion; ground water, water supply; agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture, forestry; human settlement, social service, population, employment, urbanization; infrastructure; institution, finance; agricultural extension, expansion of irrigated rice multiple cropping, crop diversification, orchard production, livestock; wildlife reserves; socio-economics; topographic survey, hydrographic survey; geology; computer modeling; natural resource, cost estimate.
