Highlight : A modern Container terminal that involved many challenging tasks such as site remediation from underlying silt which costed nearly 25% of total construction cost and to complete the whole terminal to a tight schedule of 15 months.

Project description :

Terminal A3 at Laemchabang Port has been developed by Hutchison Laemchabang Terminal on a design / build basis. Italian-Thai appointed Sindhu Maunsell Consultants as their project designer in the tender stage and, again later, for the detailed design once ITD was declared the successful bidder.

Project works included site remediation to replace underlying soft material then the construction of a 350m long berth for Panamax-sized container ships backed up with a stacking yard covering 13ha. SMC provided designs for all the facility constructions, including earthworks, berth structure, yard pavement, runways and drainage, associated buildings and mechanical / electrical systems.

SMC were also present on site throughout construction works to provide design support to ITD and to sign-off on the constructed works.

The works were completed to a tight timescale, requiring unloading of the container cranes onto the wharf 15 months after the contract commencement.
