Project Description : The Outer Bangkok Ring Road (OBRR) Project has been the subject of various governmental studies and planning documents since 1975.  Based on the earlier studies the portions of the ring road were constructed as separate sections, and the entire ring road was planned to be complete in 1987.  Currently, the 70 km. Western Outer Bangkok Ring Road, from Bang Pa-in to Bang Khun Thian, is already operating as a toll free highway, while the 65 km Eastern Outer Bangkok Ring Road, from Bang Pa-in to Bang Na, is operating as a toll motorway.  Only the 35-km Southern Outer Bangkok Ring Road (S-OBRR) is to be completed. Once completed, this project will improve the traffic flows between cities and regions as well as local traffic conditions in the city.

The project starts at Rama II Road (Thonburi - Paktho) from the end of the Western Outer Bangkok Ring Road (W-OBRR) and connects with the Eastern Outer Bangkok Ring Road (E-OBRR).

The motorway crosses Suksawat Road in Phra Pradaeng Area, then runs east to cross the Chao Phraya River, crosses Sukhumvit Road near Wat Tri Samakkhi, and crosses Srinakharin Road and Thepharak Road, connecting with Bang Na - Bang Pakong Highway at the end of the E-OBRR to complete the Outer Bangkok Ring Road System. The section from Rama II Road (Thonburi - Paktho) to Suksawat Road (Phra Pradaeng - Pom Phrachul), a distance of approximately 14.3 kilometers, is under construction by DOH. Section from Suksawat Road to Bang Na – Bang Pakong Highway (20.7 km) is to be constructed.
